It's hard to absorb that the Right in all their faith-based values really are divisive, angry and narrowly focused against gays, against birth control, against diversity. I'm no religious scholar, but I can't believe that the teachings of Jesus, Allah, Buddha, are so against those things and not for people in all denominations, races, beliefs and orientations. Should it not be about each of us trying to be moral, doing our best, being good to one another and showing respect and civility to everyone? B
Thanks for posting the link to the Christian conservative article. The writer was exactly right -- these folks are not stupid or ignorant, they are deliberately indoctrinated from childhood to believe in the Us vs Them mentality. I was married once to a man who went through a thankfully-brief 'born again' phase. We had one car so I was stuck at home with the kids while he was at work. He would actually come home and chastise me for not 'witnessing' enough. The Forces of Evil were going to overtake the world because I did not do my 'Christian duty'. Apparently witnessing to the dog was not sufficient.
These people truly terrify me, as much if not more than radical Islamic fundamentalists.
